In my opinion, the IKAN Bowler®
offers the same opportunity to all individuals
with physical disability to continue or perhaps
even begin an active lifestyle. Facilities across
the country that offer barrier-free bowling
would benefit tremendously from offering the
IKAN Bowler® at their locations. By providing
the opportunity for bowlers with a disability
to participate in competitive bowling leagues
along side non-disabled bowlers, there is a
"win/win" outcome for everyone involved.

Our focus
at Shepherd is to improve our patient's physical,
cognitive, and/or social functioning, and to
return the individual to as independent and
active of a lifestyle as possible. With the
donation of the bowler to Shepherd and the Atlanta
area, our service does not stop at the door
of Shepherd. We are able to recommend other
facilities that provide the bowlers in the home
communities of our patients so that they can
continue their leisure activity upon discharge,
and they can maintain the level of independence
and active lifestyle we encourage in rehab.

"To
most individuals without a disability, being
able to bowl may not seem like a huge deal.
But for those with high-level tetraplegia, especially
those who were extremely active prior to their
injuries, finding an outlet for sports participation
can greatly improve their quality of life.”

"I
treat patients who can no longer participate
in physical activities. This often leads to
depression and a feeling of uselessness, which
is a great emotional factor in the patient’s
progress or retrogression of their illness or
disability. I whole-heartedly believe that the
IKAN Bowler® will make their lives much
fuller and has great therapeutic value in the
course of their treatment.”

"It’s
really something to see these guys and girls
that really don’t have a lot to smile
about grin from ear to ear when they’re
able to roll a strike and feel like just a part
of everyone else.”

"On behalf of the patients and staff at
the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital, I would
like to thank you for your recent donation of
an IKAN Bowler® . This unique system will
most definitely meet the adaptive equipment
needs of our more severly disabled members.
We are certain that the IKAN Bowler® will
allow our hospitalized veterans the opportunity
to explore a meaningful and fun leisure activitiy."

"I am writing this letter in support of
your IKAN adaptive bowling device. Several months
ago, members of The Old Dominion Chapter of
the National Spinal Cord Injury Association
and I attended the IKAN demonstration at the
AMF bowlingfacility in Mechaniesville, Virginia.
We were very impressed by this
well engineered piece of adaptive equipment
and the amount of control and independence which
it provides to power wheelchair bowlers. This
is certainly a segment of the disabled population
which has largely been overlooked in terms of
providing recreational opportunities, which
can be enjoyed along with family and friends."
